Risk Communications
Often misunderstood as a technique for convincing laymen to view risk as scientists do, true risk communication occurs only when both "sides" learn to respect each other's viewpoints. Risk communication succeeds when a mother who is uncomfortable with a one-in-one billion cancer risk from a proposed project, can speak frankly to a project manager and get straight answers. It also requires that the project manager use her training and knowledge to help educate, but also use her personal experience to understand and relate to the mother's concerns.
